Hours for the Summit County Domestic Relations Court are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
There are many online forms, including for separations, divorce, paternity, motions, and protection orders. While you can represent yourself and use these forms, we highly recommend working with an Akron family law attorney who has experience with this paperwork.
You must pay a fee to the Clerk of the Court when filing some paperwork. For example, a dissolution or divorce fee ranges from $370 to $420, depending on your circumstances.
A motion is when you ask the judge to decide issues in your case. For example, you can file a motion to modify your child support. You make this request in writing and file it with the Clerk of the Court. Then, you attend a hearing on the matter. Because you have to file specific rules and procedures, it’s best to talk with an attorney before filing a motion.
Summit County offers several free programs for parents.
You only need to bring yourself and your questions. But if you have any paperwork or documents, we’ll review them. This first meeting is for us to get to know you, talk about your situation, and then explain what comes next.
We operate with regular business hours, but our call service is available 24 hours. You don’t have to worry about not hearing from us for days or weeks. We’ll call you back as soon as possible. We often give our clients our cell phone numbers and can talk via text or email.
It depends on the legal matter. Many domestic cases are resolved outside of the courtroom, but court hearings happen too. You may need to appear before a judge sometimes. We’ll explain when you have to go to court and help you prepare. You’ll know what to expect.
Our fees vary depending on the matter because each case is unique. However, we do everything possible to keep our fees reasonable and to reduce your overall costs. We know family matters are often financially straining, and we do what we can to help, including offering several financing options.
