There are multiple courthouses in Summit County. The location where your case will be heard depends on factors, including the type of case and what is in question.

Most Summit County courts allow you to view court dockets online. Actual public records, including court documents, must be requested through the Summit County Clerk of Courts. You must have identifying information for the parties and/or cases you are searching for through public records searches.

Parking is available for the Summit County courthouse at the Summit County Parking Deck (200 South High Street), Broadway Parking Deck (120 South Broadway), and Citi Center Parking Deck (132 South High Street).

The Summit County Court of Common Pleas hears more than 1,600 cases each year, which include criminal charges and various civil matters. There are 10 judges who hear cases in Summit County, each with differing rules for their courtrooms.

The Summit County Domestic Relations Court handles family law cases involving divorce, dissolution, annulment, parentage, third-party legal custody, visitation by parents, grandparents, and third parties, child and spousal support, civil protection orders (CPOs), and dating violence orders. Two judges preside over legal matters for the Summit County family law court.

The Summit County Domestic Relations Court offers multiple programs to help families and do what is in the best interests of the children, including:

It also has specialized dockets for the Mental Health Court, Family Intervention Court, Active Recovery Creates Hope (ARCH) Court, Valor Court for veterans, Recovery Court, and Restore Individual Self-Empowerment (RISE).
  • Barberton Municipal Court – This court handles preliminary hearings in felony cases, traffic matters, misdemeanors, and civil cases up to $15,000. It is located at 576 W. Park Ave., Room 205, Barberton, OH 44203, Phone: (330) 753-2261. Necessary court forms can be downloaded from the Barberton Clerk of Court website.
  • Summit County Juvenile Court – This court is located at 620 Dan Street, Akron, OH 44310, and is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday – Friday: (330) 643-2900. It handles legal matters for children under 18, including detention and neglect cases. The goal of Summit County Juvenile Court is to rehabilitate minors rather than punish them.
